Peter Pan sketches part 2

These are some other Peter Pan sketches.

When working with sketches I usually don’t add any color, in this case I wanted to add some lights and shadows before working in Adobe Illustrator, that’s because the client needed these illustrations in vector format.

As you may notice in this sketch, the elements were sketched separately, the reason is that all these illustrations are animated using Flash or After Effects, a very basic animation, arms slightly moving, eyes blinking, etc.

Peter Pan and the Lost Boys walking the plank

I’m currently working on some illustrations of Peter Pan, not the whole story, just an excerpt. The client’s specs are that these illos need to be ‘vector files’ because they’re gonna be animated (just some little movements, some blinking, arms moving, stuff like that I think), and that’s okay, if you see the most of my works were created using Adobe Illustrator, I love vector format, but…well, after some years I’d like to make some changes in the way I work and the way all my illustrations are created, I love sketching, that’s one of my favorites moments when I’m creating something, whether it’s an illustration for a magazine, or creating some characters or whatever else, once this sketch is created (and approved) I scan it and then I redraw it using Adobe Illustrator (I think that’s the way many vector illustrators use) and that’s ok, but following this process is time consuming, and in some cases there’s no need of doing this (unless I need to create some vector art because it’s gonna be animated using Flash or for any other reason). With this I’m not saying that my long-term period of being a vector illustrator is coming to an end, I’d rather say that it’s just a matter of streamlining processes. Have you experienced something like this? I’m all ears to hear some advices.

These are some rough sketches of Venustiano Carranza, president of Mexico in the revolution era; I was trying to find some style to develop for the whole project, honestly I’m not really good at drawing portraits, so I moved from a funny style, to something more realistic and finally a stylized portrait (displayed here the final image), which it’s my fav.

Little sisters sketch

I was contacted by a guy over the internet who liked my style and asked me if I was interested in certain project, it was a story about two sisters and I don’t remember what else, I started making some rough sketches of girls, one older than the other, after some sketches he picked up a couple with just a few changes, after these changes were done this new client just stopped any communication, maybe he got busy with some other stuff, I don’t know, anyway, he knows how to reach me back (BTW, there wasn’t any down payment, I trusted this guy and it was my very first project online, so I was excited, well, I learned the hard way, I don’t think it’s gonna happen again)

I think in a future I’m gonna license the original vector file to be used freely (almost, just keeping the ‘by: My Name’) by anyone as I’ve already done with some other works, what’s the use of having this material stored in my hard drive? maybe anybody else could find it useful.

Guadalupe flea market

This is a funny character for a local flea market I did some time ago, yes I know that this ‘flea’ looks more like an ant, actually that’s right, but well, I sketched some different options of this character, the most of them trying the character to look more like a flea (or what we think a ‘funny’ flea should look like, because honestly, real fleas are awful and ugly as hell), but the client liked this version, so, not much to do about it.

The brothers

This is a short story I was developing about three brothers who were separated during their childhood, years later they met again. The life of every one of them had taken very different paths, but in the end, no matter how much they had changed, they showed their solidarity and affection to each other
