Peter Pan sketches part 2

These are some other Peter Pan sketches.

When working with sketches I usually don’t add any color, in this case I wanted to add some lights and shadows before working in Adobe Illustrator, that’s because the client needed these illustrations in vector format.

As you may notice in this sketch, the elements were sketched separately, the reason is that all these illustrations are animated using Flash or After Effects, a very basic animation, arms slightly moving, eyes blinking, etc.

Hugo Herrera in illustrationmundo.com

I’m happy to announce that I’m listed in illustrationmundo.com, maybe there might be thousands of illustrators too, well, anyway, for me it’s such a pleasure to be listed with those incredible talented colleagues.
I’d like to thank Nate Williams and his illustrationmundo.com website, an excellent showcase of illustrators from all around the ‘mundo’.

The benefits of sleep

This is an illustration for a magazine about the benefits of a good sleep.

The client asked me to do a clear, straightforward illustration (not metaphorical or abstract style) because ‘it’s gonna be just a small note’ he said

Peter Pan and the Lost Boys walking the plank

I’m currently working on some illustrations of Peter Pan, not the whole story, just an excerpt. The client’s specs are that these illos need to be ‘vector files’ because they’re gonna be animated (just some little movements, some blinking, arms moving, stuff like that I think), and that’s okay, if you see the most of my works were created using Adobe Illustrator, I love vector format, but…well, after some years I’d like to make some changes in the way I work and the way all my illustrations are created, I love sketching, that’s one of my favorites moments when I’m creating something, whether it’s an illustration for a magazine, or creating some characters or whatever else, once this sketch is created (and approved) I scan it and then I redraw it using Adobe Illustrator (I think that’s the way many vector illustrators use) and that’s ok, but following this process is time consuming, and in some cases there’s no need of doing this (unless I need to create some vector art because it’s gonna be animated using Flash or for any other reason). With this I’m not saying that my long-term period of being a vector illustrator is coming to an end, I’d rather say that it’s just a matter of streamlining processes. Have you experienced something like this? I’m all ears to hear some advices.

My brand new site

Screen shot of http://hugoherreraf.com/Finally I have my very own website.

I used to have this wordpress blog as my institutional site, (which works great, I can’t complain) but I felt that it was necessary for me to have my own domain name (yes I know I could use my own dotcom on wordpress.org but let’s see how it works with the guys of cargocollective). Now,  regarding this blog, some things may change, I’m gonna still posting works I’ve done, but now I’d like this blog to be more like the ‘backstage’ of my works, more sketches, more illos that for any reason didn’t make it, to share how I deal with the process, to share interesting stuff of some colleagues, etc.

I hope you visit my new site, for now it’s full of works I’ve already posted in this blog, I’ve been working in some projects, unfortunately I can’t post them yet because these haven’t been released by clients.

Comments are fully appreciated.
PS: In this my new site in a near future I’m gonna create a page just for free stuff, works I’ve done in the past and at this time I can share the original files (illustrator files the most of the cases) for free, as I’ve been doing with some works here (the ones with the blue ribbon in the upper left side), remember, sharing is good.a
