Excel Tours Playa del Carmen promotional posters

These are different posters I’ve made recently for this client in Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo, Mexico. This client asked me to create some promotional posters, they had a very limited budget so these posters needed to display just very basic information, no pictures at all, ‘they have to be spotted from the other side of the street’ was the only request. So I just played around with just different types, sizes and background colors, etc. Finally I added this ‘grainy textured folded paper texture’ with a twist of ‘vintage look’, like if they were silk-screen printed.

There’s no logo placed on these posters because they are to be displayed exclusively in Playa del Carmen branch office, as part of their promotions.

Mayans’ Explorers brochure

My friend of Mayan’s Explorers was invited to a tourism and eco-adventure expo in Mexico City, he received this invitation just a few days before the opening (that, by the way, took him completely by surprise), so he wasn’t ready with printed stuff like brochures, not even his business cards, the reason is that the logo wasn’t ready, although he was using an old one I designed, he wasn’t quite happy with the final result, (I’ve already posted about this issue in april this year, you can read about it here). Anyway, I presented some new proposals, and now the client is feeling very confident and happy with all the proposals, (I’ll write about these proposals and the new logo in a future post).

About the brochure, we had a few days to work on it and have it ready on time to send it to print, so while I was working on the brochure layout, the client was getting some photographs and writing the text. It’s pretty much easier to come up with something when you have the understanding of what the client is expecting to see in any determined project, and he’s aware of his duty of easing things up (like getting the stuff you need in order to fulfill the task in the requested time). It’s a matter of good communication.

Screen shot of http://hugoherreraf.com/Finally I have my very own website.

I used to have this wordpress blog as my institutional site, (which works great, I can’t complain) but I felt that it was necessary for me to have my own domain name (yes I know I could use my own dotcom on wordpress.org but let’s see how it works with the guys of cargocollective). Now,  regarding this blog, some things may change, I’m gonna still posting works I’ve done, but now I’d like this blog to be more like the ‘backstage’ of my works, more sketches, more illos that for any reason didn’t make it, to share how I deal with the process, to share interesting stuff of some colleagues, etc.

I hope you visit my new site, for now it’s full of works I’ve already posted in this blog, I’ve been working in some projects, unfortunately I can’t post them yet because these haven’t been released by clients.

Comments are fully appreciated.
PS: In this my new site in a near future I’m gonna create a page just for free stuff, works I’ve done in the past and at this time I can share the original files (illustrator files the most of the cases) for free, as I’ve been doing with some works here (the ones with the blue ribbon in the upper left side), remember, sharing is good.a

Mayans' Explorers

I have this friend of mine running a small travel agency dedicated to organize eco-adventure tours in Mayan Riviera, southeast of Mexico, he asked me to create the visual identity of his company, after some briefing and guidelines of what he expected to see in the logo (like some mayan pyramids, rain forest, stuff like that), I started working in some sketches, all of them with different views and styles of a pyramid, finally he picked up the option above, I liked it, it was my favorite proposal, so I started applying the logo in some stationery, business cards, etc.; a few days later he told me that he wasn’t sure if the winner logo might work, -now that I have this logo of my company, I’m seeing a lot of logos with pyramids- he said, -either if they are restaurants, bars, stores, etc. there are pyramids all over the place- (my theory is that he never ‘consulted’ with his wife about the different proposals, maybe once she saw the winner logo she complained about it, -another logo with a pyramid? c’mon guys!-; well, all these are just silly theories, both of them are really nice friends) anyway, I tried to convince him to use the logo with no success, so I started reviewing some proposals which fell by the wayside and creating new ones, these are below:

Mayans' Explorers

This is finally the winner proposal, it’s nice although I prefer the first one, anyway he they liked it
